Significance of Dhanteras: Dhanteras or Dhan Trayodashi marks the beginning of 5 days of Diwali festival. People buy Gold or silver on this day because it is believed that the investments made on this day appreciate in the long run. Houses are decorated and Rangolis are drawn to attract Goddess Lakshmi. This day is also dedicated to Dhanvantri, god of Medicine, so this day is also celebrated as Dhanvantri Jayanti.
